Is Gmail secure?

Problem

After I found out my Orange mail isn't secure, I was under the impression Gmail was secure. But although the first login page of Gmail is secure (https), subsequent pages are non-secure (http). Is Gmail secure? And if not, how can I make it so?

Solution

Gmail is secure as long as you initiate the login via a secure url, e.g.: https://gmail.com
