How to install subversion on Debian

Problem

When I do this apt-get install subversion as root on Debian stable (Sarge), I get errors:

Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Package subversion is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package subversion has no installation candidate

Solution

I think the 1-cd installation doesn't contain subversion. I modified /etc/apt/sources.list to retrieve the packages from http instead of cdrom:

#deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main

#deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r4 _Sarge_ - Official i386 Binary-1 (20061116)]/ unstable contrib main
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib

This is in /etc/apt/sources.list:

#deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main

deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r4 _Sarge_ - Official i386 Binary-1 (20061116)]/ unstable contrib main

deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib
