Kubuntu: Mplayer fullscreen video tearing
From FVue
Problem
When I play a video fullscreen in mplayer, the top portion of the screen shows tearing, i.e. a horizontal bar misaligns. I created this image to show the problem, the tearing occurs at the red arrow:
Environment
- Kubuntu-14.04
- KDELibs Version: 4.13.3
- Qt Version: 4.8.6
- mplayer-1.1-4.8
- Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 (Xorg.log)
- Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller, Intel Corporation, driver=i915 (lshw -C video)
Workaround
Press Alt+Shift+F12, or the shortcut key defined at: { System Settings | Desktop Effects | "Desktop effects can be toggled anytime using this shortcut:" }

It was advised to put the lines below in /etc/profile:
export __GL_YIELD=USLEEP export __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1
but this doesn't fix it for me.
